This tawny twenty-year Port from the Douro is a real tiger of a wine, lithe and powerful, supple, graceful, and beautifully colored, the clear rubbed brown of oak paneling striped with copper highlights. The bouquet is heady and powerful, with toffee, coffee liqueur, figs and licorice; the palate plush and life-loving, all coffee, toffee apple, spice, stewed cherries and blackberry cobbler, with a finish of smoky fruit and burnt sugar. Have it with salted caramel ice-cream and pistachios, dark chocolate ganache, or plum pudding.
